Kerala turns safe zone for terrorists disguised as migrant workers

Kochi: The Intelligence Bureau reported that Kerala has become a safe zone for terrorists. Five years ago, military intelligence had reported that terrorists and Maoists disguised as migrant workers are settled in Kerala.

Many Maoists and terrorists were nabbed from migrant workers’ camp during police raids. But these raids and further investigation about such groups were not continued later. As migrant workers have great demand in Kerala, people who have links with terrorist and Maoist groups consider Kerala as a safe zone for them, reported the Intelligence Bureau.

This is mainly because, police inspections are not effective in migrant labour camps and Keralites hire these workers without any inquiries. Examining these two facts, terrorists and Maoists disguised as migrant workers move to Kerala.

In 2015, September, Military Intelligence alerted state intelligence department that Kerala turned a hideout for terrorist groups. Following this, raids were carried across the state.

In October first week, Police arrested Maoist leader Jitendra Oraon, organizer of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army in Jharkhand from Angamaly. He was working at one of the companies in Champannoor industrial area.

In the next week, a special team of police nabbed Bodoland terrorist Libion Basumatary from a camp of Assam workers in Kozhikode. He was the commander of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), a banned terrorist group in Assam. These arrests were carried out as per the data collected by the Intelligence wing.

In 2007, Andhra Police Intelligence arrested People’s War Group Maoist leader Malla Raja Reddy and his wife Beecha Gana from Angamaly. Reddy and his family were settled at Kanjirakkad in Perumbavoor. Maoist leaders Adv. Roopesh and wife Shina helped them to find a hideout in Kerala.
