Cyclone Mocha causing continued rains in West Bengal, heat wave in other parts




Cyclone Mocha in the Bay of Bengal is causing continued rains in the affected areas. The coastal parts of West Bengal have been receiving continuous rains, dropping the mercury drastically. In a statement issued by the Meteorological Department on Tuesday morning, it has been told that during the last 24 hours, 15.2 mm of rain has been recorded in Kolkata. The minimum temperature dropped to 22.1 degree Celsius, which is five notches below normal. While, the maximum temperature recorded a day ago was 36.7 degree Celsius, which may remain lower for a couple of days.

Taking precuationary measures, NDRF was deployed in the coastal areas of the state to deal with the effects of cyclone Mocha. The impacts of the cyclone have seriously been felt in the areas of Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted heat wave conditions along east coast during next 2 days. Similarly, a heavy rainfall spell over Northeastern states during next 4 days, has also been predicted by the met department.

Light to moderate widespread rainfall is very likely over Northeast India during next 4 days and heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh on May 16 also. Similarly, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may also expererience heavy rain till May 19.

IMD has also issued yellow alert specifying the areas where hit wave is occurring. According to the met department, moderate temperature or heat is tolerable for general public, but moderate health concern exists for vulnerable people like- infants, elderly, people with chronic diseases. It has also suggested to avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light coloured, loose, cotton clothes, cover head, use a cloth, hat and umbrella.
