Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasises planting trees is extremely important for protecting environment

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has emphasised that planting trees is extremely important for protecting the environment and ensuring a sustainable future. Addressing the Vriksh Mitra Programme and Paryavaran Sanrakshan Sankalp event in New Delhi, Mr Chouhan said, today the entire world is concerned about climate change and global warming. He noted that since 1880, rising ocean temperatures and melting glaciers have led to an increase in global sea levels by about 20 to 23 centimetres. He added that the Earth’s average temperature has risen by nearly 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to 1900, which is a serious warning sign of climate change. Mr Chouhan highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several key initiatives to tackle this crisis. He said that there has been a significant increase in renewable energy capacity in the country. The Minister also mentioned initiatives like Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign and Mission LiFE to protect and preserve the environment. Mr Chouhan said that India has set a target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.
