The Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair, being in its 10th year, scored a moral victory when the Madras High Court dismissed a public interest litigation challenging the organisation of the fair.
A G Narasimhan from Salem had filed the petition against the fair, currently being held at Guru Nanak College Grounds in Velachery, Chennai. Narasimhan argued that it was being held at the venue of a government-aided minority institution, that too on working days.
Additional Government Pleader E Manoharan submitted that the petitioner sent a representation to the government officials only on 24 January and filed the petition the very next day: this PIL was to make headlines.
A Division bench consisting of M Sathyanarayan and P Rajamanickam, which took up this PIL, dismissed it,saying that the case lacked merit.
