‘Locals helped terrorists, their betrayal led to 2014 Peshawar massacre’: Report exposes Pakistan’s duplicity

The 2014 Peshawar school massacre sent chills down the spine of even those who ran the government in Pakistan, a country that unleashes terror on the world, especially its neighbouring countries.

Now, a judicial commission that investigated the incident has claimed that the massacre could have been averted had some locals not provided shelter to the terrorists.

“Had our own people not provided shelter to the terrorists, the militants would have never succeeded in their nefarious design. But it is abysmal that our own blood played hand in glove with enemies,” Pakistani news publication The Express Tribune quoted the report as saying on Saturday.

The commission’s report was unveiled on Friday upon the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

“The local people of village Tehkhail could neither identify nor report movement of the foreigners. Six terrorists were residing in the same village with the help of local people,” the report added.

Heavily-armed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists stormed the Peshawar Army Public School on 16 December 2014 and killed 145 people in cold blood, mostly schoolchildren.

The Peshawar High Court had subsequently formed a single-member commission headed by Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan on 12 October 2018 following a Supreme Court order.

The 3,000-page report has statements of 132 people, including 101 witnesses, 31 policemen, Pakistan Army personnel and other officers.

No intelligence agency in the world can be successful as long as a segment of the society sympathises with the enemy for whatever reason, the report claimed.

“Admittedly, if the public would provide them (terrorists) shelter and weapons then agencies would be at the mercy of (such) powers. I can perceive with honesty that one’s own blood and flesh committed treachery and betrayal, the result would always be devastating,” it further said.
