The India Meteorology Department in Chennai has said that heavy to very heavy rain is expected over five districts of Tamil Nadu for the next 48-hours. In its weather bulletin issued today, it is said an upper air circulation will bring heavy rain in Namakkal, Salem, Erode, Karur and Tiruchirappalli districts. In addition, ten other districts are expected to receive light to moderate rain during the next two days.
The State Revenue Department has asked the public not to go near water bodies during the rain. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the Comorin Sea and the Gulf of Mannar. High waves of up to 3.4 metres are expected today from the Kanyakumari coast to Dhanuskodi near Rameswaram.
In the last 24-hours, Manjalar in Theni district received eleven centimetres rain, followed by Periyakulam in the same district ten centimetres and Madurai nine centimetres.
