प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी अब से कुछ देर बाद नई दिल्ली में श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति गोतबया राजपक्ष मुलाकात करने वाले हैं। दोनों नेताओं की बैठक में भारत और श्रीलंका के बीच मौजूदा द्विपक्षीय संबंधों को मजबूत करने के तौर-तरीकों और सहयोग के नये क्षेत्रों का पता लगाने पर चर्चा होने की संभावना है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के निमंत्रण पर श्रीलंका के नवनिर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति कल शाम भारत की राजकीय यात्रा पर नई दिल्ली पहुंचे। पद संभालने के बाद श्री राजपक्ष की यह पहली विदेश यात्रा है।
इससे पहले, आज सुबह, श्री राजपक्ष ने विदेश मंत्री डॉ0 एस जयशंकर से मुलाकात की और अनेक द्विपक्षीय तथा क्षेत्रीय मुद्दों पर चर्चा की। राष्ट्रपति भवन में आज सुबह उनका परम्परागत तरीके से स्वागत किया गया। श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति का आज शाम राष्ट्रपति राम नाथ कोविंद से मुलाकात का भी कार्यक्रम है।
