World Facing More Competition, Less Compactness: EAM Jaishankar at Aravalli Summit

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar has said that the world is witnessing more competition and less compact, and India has to strategise and keep rising amidst such volatility. Addressing the inaugural session of Aravalli Summit at the School of International Studies in JNU, New Delhi, yesterday evening, Dr Jaishankar said, a nation’s profile is judged by the power of its ideas. He also spoke about the challenges of the evolving global landscape, its strategic implications and India’s approach to advance its national interests.

Highlighting the scale of geopolitical change, Dr Jaishankar observed that it appears that it is India’s destiny that its rise take place in an exceptionally turbulent era. He said, when he looks back at his research on the evolution of a global order in the aftermath of World War, it seems almost glacial in comparison to the mega changes that people are witnessing today.

The summit is part of the 70-year celebrations of Sthe chool of International Studies, marking seven decades of academic excellence and intellectual independence. SIS has been at the forefront of area studies and has shaped national and global debates on nuclear policy, regionalism and governance.
