The West Bengal government has decided to provide Z-category security to Sourav Ganguly, a former Indian cricket team captain and former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to the Hindusthan Samachar. The decision was taken in light of recent IB inputs regarding Ganguly’s security.
On Tuesday, May 16, the police of Thakurpukur police station went to Sourav Ganguly’s house along with the officers of the Special Branch of Kolkata Police. In addition, Kolkata Traffic Police officials were also involved in it.
A review meeting with Ganguly’s secretary was held for about an hour. However, neither from the side of Ganguly’s family nor from the Kolkata Police was any information officially provided. But sources have said that Sourav Ganguly will be given Z-category security this week.
Around two decades ago, the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba threatened to kidnap Sourav Ganguly, after which he was given Z plus security. Although later it was changed to the Y category.
