Uttar Pradesh government imposes ESMA for six months

Uttar Pradesh government has imposed Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in the state. The order released in this regard says that the act will be imposed for 6 months.

As per the U.P ESMA, the state government now has the power to prohibit strikes in workplaces for the next six months, after which it may be extended for another six months. Last time the act was imposed in the state on 22nd May this year and the time period of six months has expired.
