Uttar Pradesh: 8-year-old kidnapped boy recovered in 15 hours

LUCKNOW: In a joint operation, seluths of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Gonda police recovered an 8-year-old son of a gutka trader who was kidnapped for ransom from Kernalganj area in Gonda on Saturday.

Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar was monitoring and supervising the whole operation.

Kumar said in the wee hours of Saturday, an informer had tipped off police that kidnappers were changing their locattion.

“Immediately our teams laid a trap near Bhambhua and spotted kidnappers in a car,” he said.

Teams warned the driver of the car to stop for checking but it’s occupants opened fire.

In retaliation, STF and Gonda police fired back during which  two of the kidnappers-Umesh Yadav and Deepu Kashyap sustainED injuries while three others- Suraj Pandey, his brother- Raj Pandey and his wife Chhavi Pandey were nabbed.

Later, cops seized the car and also recovered the boy.

Superintendent of Police, Gonda, Raj Nayyar told TOI that combing operation to nab other associates of the gang was underway. ” We got leads from a CCTV footage which had captured the gang members and the car,” he said.

On Friday, an FIR was lodged by the boy’s uncle, Vinod Gupta, at Colonelganj police station. Around 1.25pm, two men came to the neighborhood, posing as health department workers from Delhi and that they were distributing face masks and sanitisers in time of pandemic.

The captors had asked the boy and his brother, who were with their grandmother, Vindeshwari, to come near their parked car and take the masks and sanitizers. The elder boy had walked away with the men and did not return. He was driven away by his kidnappers.

Later, a call was made from two different numbers seeking a ransom amount, of Rs 4 crore.
