Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, marked World Diabetes Day today with a community-focused awareness program aimed at promoting prevention, early screening, and healthy lifestyle practices. The event reinforced the importance of collective action in addressing the growing burden of diabetes.
The program was graced by Shri Rajesh Kumar Patil, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Odisha Coperative society as the Chief Guest.
Renowned Olympian Mrs. Anuradha Biswal joined as the Guest of Honour, emphasizing the crucial role of sports and physical fitness in controlling and preventing diabetes.

Senior Endocrinologist from Utkal Hospital — Dr. Madhusmita Sahu (Consultant Endocrinologist), Dr. Sudhir Patnayak (Senior Consultant – Medicine & Diabetology), and Dr. Pranabandhu Sahoo (Senior Consultant – Medicine & Diabetology) — were present and shared key medical insights with the participants.
A major highlight of the event was the diabetes awareness yoga session, conducted under the guidance of Mr. Suresh Mohapatra, President, Indian Yoga Sansthan. More than 200 participants performed yoga, showcasing strong community participation and the impact of yoga on metabolic health.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Madhusmita Sahu highlighted the importance of proper food habits in preventing diabetes and maintaining long-term glycemic control.
Dr. Sudhir Patnayak and Dr P B Sahoo stressed the need for lifestyle management, including daily physical activity, adequate rest, and regular medical checkups.
Mr. Subodh Singh, CEO, Utkal Hospital, reiterated the hospital’s commitment to fighting diabetes through continuous awareness drives, early detection camps, and community engagement programs.
