Update on Oxygen Express: Completed Journeys, and Next planned Journeys

To transport Oxygen across India, Indian Railways took on the task of Oxygen Express. The Express is providing life-saving Oxygen to different states to combat the increasing demand for Oxygen. Till now, 514 metric tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen has been delivered to Delhi, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. The Oxygen Express has covered more than 10,000 km (in empty and loaded conditions).

Indian Railways’ Oxygen Express has been operated between Mumbai to Vizag via Nagpur to Nashik as well as Lucknow to Bokaro and back and on other routes. Till now the Oxygen express has delivered LMO in New Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Jabalpur, Sagar, Bhopal, Nagpur, Nasik, and Mumbai.

Next planned Oxygen Expresses

The Indian railway has planned five more Oxygen Express which are:

  • Between Jamshedpur and Jabalpur
  • Between Angul and Vijayawada
  • Between Vizag and Nagpur
  • Between Angul and Pune
  • Between Jamnagar and Mumbai

Indian Railways has delivered 202 metric tonnes of LMO to Uttar Pradesh, 174 metric tonnes to Maharashtra, 70 metric tonnes to Delhi, and 64 metric tonnes to Madhya Pradesh.

Oxygen Express with 64 MT of LMO reaches Bhopal from Bokaro

This train was carrying 64 metric tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen in six tankers, which will replenish oxygen demand in Madhya Pradesh through the city of Bhopal and Jabalpur. The train reached Mandideep railway station in Bhopal on 28 April 2021. Two tankers each will be unloaded at Mandideep and Sagar and one tanker will be sent to Jabalpur.

Western Railway’s first Oxygen Express – Hapa (Gujrat) to Kalamboli (Maharashtra)

The train carried 44 Metric tonnes of LMO to Kalamboli and reached the destination on 26 April. The Oxygen Express covered a distance of 860 km and provided the Maharashtra state with life-saving gas.

First Oxygen Express reached Delhi on 27 April

An Oxygen Express train with four tankers carrying around 70 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen reached Delhi from Raigarh on 27 April 2021. The 70 Tonnes of LMO is helping the Capital to cater to COVID-19 patients across different hospitals in Delhi.

Oxygen Express from Bokaro to Lucknow

An Oxygen Express train carrying around 30,000 liters of liquid medical Oxygen arrived in Lucknow on 24 April 2021. The train carried three tankers each with the capacity of 15,000 liters, one tanker was unloaded in Varanasi. The empty containers are headed back to Bokaro and will come back with the second supply of the LMO.
