Unlock 5: From Mumbai restaurants to Chennai local trains – Know what’s opening where from today

With Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announcing the Unlock 5.0 guidelines, some more coronavirus-induced restrictions will be eased from Monday. The guideline, which came into effect from October 1, has allowed opening up of more activities in areas outside the Containment zones.

The unlocking comes amid the spike in new virus infections in the country. With a spike of 75,829 new cases and 940 deaths reported in India, the total number of Covid-19 cases crossed 65 lakh on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

As per the MoHFW, the country’s Covid-19 tally is at 65,49,374, including 9,37,625 active cases in the country. The count also includes 55,09,967 cured and discharged or migrated cases and 1,01,782 deaths, as per the Health Ministry.

Know what’s opening where from today

Restaurants/bars/cafes: After the MHA guidelines, the Maharashtra government has announced that the restaurants/bars/cafe across the state will be allowed to remain open from October 5. The state govt had on Saturday issued SOP and focused that restaurants will have to ensure proper social distancing and reduce human contact between the customers and the staffers as much as possible.

Schools/colleges: Puducherry has allowed schools to reopen from October 5 only for the students of class 10 and 12, while schools in Tripura will be allowed to reopen on a voluntary basis from October 5 for students between classes 9 and 12.

Places of worship/temples: The ISKCON temple of Bengaluru will open its doors for the public on October 5. The temple will remain open from 9:30 am to 12.30 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm on weekdays. On weekends, the temple will remain open from 9:30 am to 8 pm.

Metro service/local trains: The Kolkata Metro will increase service time from October 5. The authorities will run more trains from today. While essential staff will be allowed to travel in ‘workmen specials’ services in Chennai local trains from October 5. At present, only railways and central government officials are allowed to travel.

Several new things to open from Oct 15

The Central government had on Wednesday issued new guidelines for ‘re-opening’ of cinema halls/ multiplexes/ swimming pools used for training of sportspersons /entertainment parks.

As per new rules, these establishments will re-open from October 15. State governments have been given the flexibility to decide about the opening of schools and educational institutes after October 15.
