Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the century of decisions taken by the NDA government in the last eight months is unprecedented. Addressing the India Action Plan 2020 Summit organized by a private TV Channel in New Delhi, he stressed that now the country will surge ahead with confidence without wasting time.
The Prime Minister said, abolishing the practice of instant triple talaq, abrogation of Article 370, bringing small traders under the ambit of pension scheme and signing of BODO peace accord are among the significant decisions.
He said, India has set a target of becoming a five trillion dollar economy and the government has taken several measures to achieve it. He said, the Union Budget will help achieve the target. The Prime Minister said, the country took 70 years to reach three trillion dollar mark. The Prime Minister emphasized that it is better to set difficult goals and work hard to achieve them than to remain directionless.
On income tax, the Prime Minister said, all governments hesitated to touch the tax system but now the present government is making tax system citizen-centric. He said, income tax is necessary for the development and urged the people to introspect on the issue. Mr Modi said, India has become one of the very few countries to have a transparent Taxpayer’s Charter that will clearly define the rights of the taxpayers.
He also assured that tax harassment will be a thing of the past. He said, this is the first time that any government has focused on smaller cities to push economic development.
He said, the new centers of economic activity in India are Tier-II and Tier-III cities and the maximum number of the poor and middle class are in these centers where maximum digital transactions are taking place.
The Prime Minister lauded the role of media in the country’s struggle for freedom. He said, any criticism by the media of his government is welcome but the media should also create awareness among the people about the government’s welfare plans and programmes. He said, the media should play a constructive role in building a prosperous India.
