Uma Bharti tests positive for COVID-19, goes into self-quarantine in Uttarakhand

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti has tested positive for COVID-19. Taking to Twitter, the BJP national vice president said she was positive for the novel coronavirus and appealed to those in close contact with her to get tested too.

Bharati had gone for a trip in the Himalayas after which she called for a team of people to test for the coronavirus on suffering from mild fever for three days. “I followed all the COVID protocol and social distancing norms in the Himalayas, yet I have turned coronavirus positive,” she said in a Twitter post.

Further, the leader informed that she is quarantined at Vande Mataram Kunj near Haridwar.

“I will get another Covid-19 test done again after four days and if the situation remains the same, will consult doctors,” she said in another tweet.

On Sunday, India’s Covid-19 tally stands at 59,92,533, while the death toll has mounted to 94,503. Of the total cases, 49,41,627 have been successfully treated while one case has been migrated from the country. There are 9,56,402 active cases of Covid-19 in India.

In the last 24 hours, 88,600 new positive cases and 1,124 deaths were reported, as per the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

The global death toll due has inched closer to the grim milestone of 10 lakh mark as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the world. According to the worldometer, a total of 9,98,721 people have lost their lives due to the virtual infection, while there were more than 33 lakh Covid-19 cases worldwide. Ahead of India, only the United States is the nation’s worst hit by the pandemic, with 7,065,019 cases and 204,249 deaths, making up more than 20 per cent of the global death toll.
