In Thailand Open Badminton, Indian shuttlers including Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth will play their matches in the second round today.
While Saina will face Japanese Sayaka Takahashi, Srikanth will play against Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand today.
Saina, Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap, B Sai Praneeth and Shubhanker Dey all progressed to the next round by overcoming their respective rivals yesterday.
World number eight Saina defeated Thailand’s Phittayaporn Chaiwan in straight games by 21-17, 21-19. Saina is playing in the competition, after missing out in Indonesia Open and Japan Open due to injury.
In the men’s single, Srikanth defeated Chinese Ren Peng Bo by 21-13, 17-21, 21-19.
While Kashyap will face Chou Tien Chen and Pranoy will play against Kenta Nishimoto today. Praneeth will face compatriot Subhankar Dev today.
Earlier yesterday, the mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa recorded one of the biggest wins of their career, stunning Olympic silver medallists Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying in the first round. They will play Indonesia’s Alfian Eko Prasetya and Marsheilla Gischa Islami in the second round today.
Pair of Pranoy Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy defeated K Gondo and A. Kurihara of Malaysia. They will next play eight seeds Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong today.
