Tamil Nadu CM Stalin seeks PM Modi’s intervention for release of 23 fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately take steps to release 23 fishermen from the state who were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister said that the fishermen were caught and their boats were seized by the Sri Lankan Navy when they were fishing near Paruthithurai on 13th of October. Condemning the action by the Sri Lankan Navy, Mr Stalin said that the matter should be taken up with the Sri Lankan President for a permanent solution.

Referring to several incidents of attack and arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy on the fishermen, the Chief Minister urged Prime Minister Modi to impress upon the Sri Lankan Government to instruct their officials to sort out the matter so that fishermen are not harmed unnecessarily.
