All pubs in Dakshina Kannada district should be shut down as they are ruining youngsters, said Karnataka BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel on Friday. He also asserted that if the state government fails to act on this, he will ask the party’s youth wing to take legal action against it.
While speaking to media, Kateel said, “In our time, we stopped the operation of clubs. Pubs should also be shut down in the district. It is ruining youngsters. If the government doesn’t take any decision, I will inform the young wing to take appropriate action through the court.”
This has come just two weeks after all the bars and restaurants were reopened in Karnataka following a more than five-month-long hiatus due to coronavirus-induced lockdown. The clubs and pubs were also resumed under the Unlock 4 guidelines.
Understandably, all the pubs and clubs in Karnataka have registered significantly better sales since September 1 when the Centre granted permission to serve alcohol.
A week after the ‘Unlock 4’ was announced, around 90 per cent of 3,606 licensed bars and restaurants resumed operations in Karnataka while 1,226 hotels and about 75 star hotels in the state also started serving liquor along with food.
