Rajya Sabha resumed the discussion on motion of thanks to the President’s address

Rajya Sabha today resumed the discussion on motion of thanks to the President’s address to joint sitting of both houses of Parliament. Participating in the discussion, Majeed Menon of NCP said, President’s address does not reflect ground realities like inflation, rising unemployment, economic slowdown and agitation against CAA and NRC.

He said, speech also does not find any mention of important global indexes like Hunger and Democracy wherein India is not performing good. Mr. Menon also criticized the detention of former J&K Chief Minister and MP, Farooq Abdullah as well as the issues of CAA. Vaiko of MDMK accused the Centre of hitting the culture and tradition of Tamil Nadu.

Manoj Kumar Jha of RJD also accused the government for destroying the ecosystem of the country by attacking on the constitution and the rights of the people. He said, majority in parliament does not mean majoritarianism. He raised question over the privatisation of railway and rising difference between Centre and States. Digvijay Singh of Congress said, there is a trust deficit among the people following the passage of CAA and demanded the government to roll back the legislation. He accused the government of dividing the people on religious lines. Mr. Singh also said that economy of the country is in the grim situation and bodies like IMF, RBI and World Bank have expressed concern over it.

Intervening in the debate, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the NDA government is committed for development without any discrimination. He said, government has implemented several historic decisions to take country forward. He also accused the opposition of creating constitutional crisis by passing resolution against CAA in their ruling states. He said, Narendra Modi government works for 130 crore people irrespective of their religion. Vijila Sathayanath of AIADMK demanded to speed up the welfare schemes related to farmers.

Satish Chandra Mishra of BSP said that the nation is reeling under an economic crisis. He said that the government has set up a regulators raj. Further stating, Mr. Mishra said that in the budget 2020-21, ten thousands crore less money has been allocated for education which will affect the education sector in the long run.
Sanjay Singh of Aam Adami Party accused the government saying that instead of talking about the core issues, NDA government always talks about the protests which are going on against the CAA. He appealed to the government to talk constructively with the protesters.

B.K. Hari Prasad of the Congress demanded to release the leaders Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. He also demanded that Kashmir’s statehood should be restored. BJP leader Vijay Goel said that CAA has been passed in both the houses of the Parliament after elaborate deliberations. He said that just for political mileage opposition is supporting the protests in Shaheen Bagh in order to divert the attention from the real issues of Delhi. He also said that by the efforts of the central government, around 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colony in Delhi will be given ownership of the land by DDA. Dr. Banda Prakash of TRS, Rakesh Sinha of BJP and Akhilesh Prasad Singh of Congress also participated in the debate.
