Rahul Gandhi detained under Section 188 by UP police on his way to Hathras; alleges cops lathicharged him

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who were en route to Hathras gangrape victim’s residence have been stopped at the Yamuna Expressway. After being stopped by the Uttar Pradesh administration at the Expressway, Rahul and Priyanka along with other party leaders started marching towards Hathras.

Rahul asks police under which section he is being arrested: Rahul Gandhi, who has been stopped at Yamuna Expressway on his way to Hathras, asks police, “I want to walk to Hathras alone. Please tell me under which section are you arresting me.” Police says, “We are arresting you under Section 188 IPC for violation of an order. “

Rahul, Priyanka detained by UP cops: Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka and other Congress leaders were detained by the UP police while they were on the way to Hathras to meet gangrape victim’s parents at their village in the district.

Rahul Gandhi alleges UP police lathicharged him: On way to Hathras, Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the Uttar Pradesh police has ‘lathicharged’ him at Yamuna Expressway. “Just now police pushed me, lathicharged me and threw me to the ground. I want to ask, can only Modi Ji walk in this country? Can’t a normal person walk? Our vehicle was stopped, so we started walking,” said the Congress leader.

‘Women being raped every day in UP’: Priyanka Gandhi hit out at Uttar Pradesh government saying that women are being raped every day in the state. “For 15 days the Yogi Adityanath government did nothing. Women are being raped every day in UP. I have an 18-year-old daughter, how would any of us feel if this happened to our daughters,” says Priyanka Gandhi.

‘Media banned in UP to hide Yogi’s jungle Raj’: Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Congress slammed Yogi govt after Hathras administration blocked media’s entry to the Boolagarhi village of the victim of gangrape.

“Today Yogi Ji (UP CM) has banned media’s entry inside the village because the media presented some important facts from the ground to the whole country. They have also revealed things regarding Yogi Ji’s jungle raj. So now the media has been banned,” UP Congress tweeted, roughly translated from Hindi.

‘Increasing tension through political tourism’: Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi hit back at the Congress leaders saying that the probe teams are carrying out an investigation into the Hathras rape case, however, there should not be any political tourism on the same.

“Those who are trying to increase the tension through political tourism, should not do that. Everyone is saddened and want punishment for the culprits, Uttar Pradesh government is working towards it. You will see the results soon,” he added.

Mayawati seeks President’s rule in UP: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and BSP Supremo Mayawati today lashed out at the Yogi Adityanath government over deteriorating law and order situation in the state after a gang-rape case was reported from Balrampur, following closely on the heels of the Hathras incident.

She demanded that the Centre should impose President’s Rule in Uttar Pradesh as the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government had failed to protect the women in the state.

Section 144 imposed in Hathras: The district magistrate has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and ordered sealing of the district borders to maintain peace.

A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four upper-caste men in Hathras on September 14 and referred to the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Monday with spinal cord injuries, paralysis and cuts in her tongue. She died around 3 am on Tuesday.
