A few days ago, when Daddy came back from work, he looked extremely happy. As soon as he entered, he started waltzing Mother around the room and told us that he had got a huge pay rise! Hearing this, we all started to waltz each other around the floor. We looked like a family of jokers. Suddenly, he said, “I have to go out.” We all just continued celebrating. When he returned, it looked like some Rockstar had stepped in! I knew it was Daddy because he winked and grinned nervously at me. I think he was scared of Mummy exploding with anger at the thought of him spending all his salary on making himself stylish. But, Daddy swept past me and put a beautiful diamond necklace on Mother’s neck. That pacified her. He, on the other hand had got a haircut that looked like it cost a fortune.  In one ear, he had got a diamond earring. He had got a very fancy shirt and coat too. He had a smart – watch strapped on his wrist. Suddenly, Daddy whipped out reservation tickets for the city’s most luxurious resort- Luxury Escapes. 

When we reached there, Daddy, looking very fine and royal in his new clothes, told the counter- man that we would like to have tea by the lake that had water hyacinths and lotus flowers. As we walked towards the lawn we admired the resort and its great interiors. When we reached the lake, Daddy bent down to pluck a lotus for me. There was a dog sitting under a gulmohar tree. When the dog saw Daddy on all his fours, it thought that Daddy was playing with it. It bounded towards him. One touch of its’ furry coat and ……. SPLASH!!! Daddy tumbled into the pond! 

We all held our breath for a moment. Then, Daddy bobbed up, gasping for breath. “Help! Help me! I can’t swim a yard.” We were rolling with laughter. Mummy pulled out a camera and “click!” She took a photo of Daddy climbing out of the pond with a look of great rage on his face. “You didn’t help me when I was shouting for help,” said Daddy angrily. We stifled our laughter because Daddy was covered in slime and seaweeds! He had wet all his new clothes and his watch had vanished! We spent the evening laughing at the thought of Daddy in the pond! He tried to catch Mother and delete the photo from her camera, but all his efforts went in vain! We learnt a lesson that day – Daddy was scared of dogs!
