PM Narendramodi to visit Bangabandhu birth place, temples in Bangladesh

On the second and concluding day of his two-day long official state visit to Bangladesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting places of historical importance and temples in the country.

PM left Dhaka Saturday morning to visit Jeshoreshwari Kali temple from where he will be going to the birthplace of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara to pay tribute at his mausoleum. After Tungipara, Prime Minister Modi will visit Orakandi where he will be given a community reception. Orakandi is the birthplace of the spiritual guru and founder of the Matua community Harichand Thakur.

Later in the afternoon on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi will hold delegation-level and restricted talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka. Exchange of MoUs and signing of agreements are likely during the meeting. Inauguration of projects is also on the cards.

He will also call upon the President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid before departing for  India in the evening on Saturday.

Earlier, on Friday, Prime Minister Modi and Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated the Bangabandhu-Bapu digital exhibition in Dhaka. 

Prime Minister Modi addressed the National Day celebration of Bangladesh at the Parade square in Dhaka on Friday. In his address on the occasion, he paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib and the martyrs of both Bangladesh and India who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War of 1971. He said that the bond of friendship between India and Bangladesh is based on shared sacrifice which can never be broken by any force. He said that the joint advancement of India and Bangladesh is equally urgent for the development of the whole region.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her address lauded India’s role in the liberation of Bangladesh. She said India is inextricably linked to Bangladesh’s birth. She urged India to take a leading role in developing a politically stable and economically vibrant South Asia in line with India’s neighbourhood first policy
