As the Covid surge continues to target India PM Modi, Central Gov and all State Gov are trying their level best to counter this “Tsunami”. From airlifting of liquid medical oxygen to Remdesivir medicine and all other required things to the most affected places but to tackle the pandemic from the front vaccination is the most important part. For the fast manufacturing of vaccines, the US should provide raw material to India in a large amount. The US should lift export restrictions and donate unused vaccines to help India.
Even the SII head Adar Poonawalla requested Biden to lift the embargo of raw material export out of the US. (Image below)
Social Media bursts out on Biden-Harris
After the US administration ignores India’s request on providing raw material to India, there has been an outburst on social media platforms against Biden-Harris and Democrats. It is not only limited to India but also some US citizens and politicians who raise their voices against this step of Biden.
One user with a Twitter handle (oyevivekk) tweeted about this ongoing situation.
“We gave up Russia, for the USA
We gave hydroxychloroquine to the USA
In return, the US has blocked the supply for production of Covishield”
They can never be trusted
Another user tweeted –:
“Remember when Bill Clinton Refused to give satellite images to India during Kargil War
The same today’s time that Biden refused to give Raw Material
Democratic Party has always been anti-India
Which is anti-India, liberal fall in love with him.”
People are also questioning Meera Harris who was very much active about the Indian internal matters in the past including Kisaan Andolan. But now not a single statement about the policy of the Biden administration.
Special Responsibility to “Americans first”
Addressing press reporters in Washington DC earlier this week, State Department spokesperson Ned Price asserted that the US was “first and foremost” engaged in, successful effort to vaccinate the American people.” He added that it was the administration’s had a “special responsibility” to America, which has been hit hardest by the pandemic. Answering questions about lifting the embargo on vaccine import to India, he further said that the administration was doing “as much as they can” for other countries, but with consistency to their first obligation.
“That campaign (vaccination) is well underway, and we’re doing that for a couple of reasons. Number one, we have a special responsibility to the American people. Number two, the American people, this country has been hit harder than any other country around the world; more than 550,000 deaths, tens of millions of infections in this country alone.”
The pressure on Biden by Indian Diaspora
- Taranjit Sandhu, India’s ambassador to the US has clearly stated the Indian situation to the US officials. He has also made clear that India is an urgent need for raw materials to boost up vaccine production.
- Congresswoman Rashida Talib called for a patent waiver to fasten up the world’s vaccine production
- Physician and researcher Ashish Jha of Brown University school tweeted that
“Indian is struggling to get people vaccinated and we are sitting on a stockpile of 35-40 million doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine which Americans will never use”
- Shekhar Narasimhan who was a major fundraiser for the Democratic during Biden Presidential election urged the POTUS to help India in any way possible and make a call to Indian PM asking about him the situation.
