The Indian Army has taken a new initiative to support the families of military personnel who lost their lives while on duty. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Directorate General of Ex-servicemen (DIAV) and Veena Nayyar to facilitate various welfare schemes designed for the next of kin of military personnel who lost their lives while on duty.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a provision of an oath of two crore rupees for welfare schemes operated by the Army, Navy and Air Force by Veena Nayyar, wife of the late Vice Admiral KK Nayyar, Indian Army Ex-servicemen Directorate (DIAV) and former Naval Deputy Chief. signed on. Veena Nayyar presented a check of two crore rupees to three army members, received by Naval Chief Admiral Karambir Singh, Army Chief General MM Naravane and Air Officer Incharge Administration Air Marshal VPS Rana at Army Headquarters, New Delhi.
These welfare schemes include education scholarships and computer grants for the children and widows of soldiers who lost their lives, grants for higher education of widows and grants for the marriage of widows and daughters of such soldiers.
The DIAV is one of the primary organizations of the Indian Army which looks after the rehabilitation and welfare of families of military personnel who lost their lives while on duty. DIAV has disbursed nearly 86,000 beneficiaries to various 76,000 beneficiaries for various welfare schemes in the last 20 years.
