The new Bahrain International Airport passenger terminal will open during the first quarter of 2020, in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed stressed commitment to cooperate and coordinate with all strategic partners so as to implement the directives issued by HRH the Crown Prince during the 2019 Government Forum. He made the announcement as he chaired the meeting of the national committee, which was tasked by HRH the Crown Prince to undertake preparations for the new terminal opening. The meeting was attended by main strategic partners, including the civil aviation affairs, the airport passports and immigration, the customs affairs as well as the companies working at the airport and the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC).
German Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide which is providing Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) with a comprehensive Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) consulting services also attended the meeting. German Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide submitted reports updating the committee on progress of the projects and ongoing preparations to operate the new state-of-the-art passenger terminal, focusing on main operations to ensure reading for the operational phase.
The session also focused on work tracks and mechanisms required during the next phase to determine the requirements for starting the operation phase of the passenger terminal. The minister stressed the crucial importance of the Operational Readiness and Transition (ORAT) phase which requires highest level of coordination with all main strategic partners at the Bahrain International Airport, representatives of the public and private sectors.
“The transformation of a newly-built terminal into a fully-functional airport is a multi-layered process that requires coordination and time to ensure the advanced systems and equipment of the new building work without any errors before its soft opening”, he said. He stressed the need to enhance security and safety procedures, improving the passenger experience which, he said, represent the main objectives during the operational testing phase, prior to inaugurating terminal in the first quarter of 2020.
