The Maharashtra government yesterday decided to cancel the class 10th state board exam amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The decision has been taken in the state cabinet meeting today chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Informing Maharashtra Minister for School Education, Varsha Gaikwad tweeted that given the worsening situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has now decided to cancel the state board exams for class 10th as the health & safety of students and teachers is of topmost priority. She said the education department is closely monitoring the health and safety situation in the state.
Gaikwad said as far as the state board exams of class 12th are concerned, the state government has already conveyed its decision to postpone these exams till May end. She added that the status remains the same.
The minister added that the criteria on which results will be declared for class 10th & date of result declaration will be announced soon. She said the state School Education Dept is committed to devising a “fair and accurate” assessment criterion.
Earlier this month, state Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had announced the postponement of class 10th and Class 12th state board exams due to the growing cases of Coronavirus infections in the state.
