Madhya Pradesh: Mohammad Aslam Baba who treated coronavirus by kissing peoples’ hand, dies; 24 contacts test positive

While the whole world is fighting against the novel coronavirus and racing to be the first nation to bring out the vaccine, several superstitions are being spread and followed in India at the same time.

In the Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, the ”baba” used to kiss the hands of devotees, and as a result infected many people. According to information from the Health Department, so far 85 people have been found infected in Ratlam district, of which 19 came in contact with the ”baba” in Nayapura area.

In this episode, Nayapura area of Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh fell prey to a superstitious activity wherein a man named Aslam Baba, used to treat COVID-19 patients by kissing their hand.

Surprisingly, despite so much hype about vigilance, some people went to Baba for the virus treatment with blind faith. Nodal officer Dr Pramod Prajapati also admitted that 24 people have been found infected who were in contact with the ”baba”. The district currently has 46 active patients. So far four people have died.

The baba himself succumbed to coronavirus on June 4. After his death, some others were quarantined in contact tracing. In the report received on June 7, six more people tested positive for the virus. Even after the administration conducted awareness, the local people used to go to Aslam Baba for treatment.

Out of a total of 85 patients in the area, 19 people have contracted COVID-19 from Aslam Baba.

As per the state health departments’ bulletin released on Wednesday night, Madhya Pradesh coronavirus tally rose to 10,049 while the number of deaths registered so far is 427. With the state crossing the 10,000-mark of coronavirus cases it became the 7th state in India to have 10,000 and more such cases, as per the union ministry of health and family welfares’ data.
