Kerala govt decides to bring change in its lockdown strategy

The Kerala government has decided to bring about a change in its lockdown strategy given the declining trend of Covid spread in the state.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told media persons that instead of adopting statewide lockdown and other control measures, the new strategy will focus on the extent of the virus spread at the local body level.
The strategy, to be announced soon, will adopt area-specific containment measures.
He said the state government has organised 362 special vaccination camps in the tribal hamlets of the state and added that steps are being taken to cover the remaining ones. 119 tribal hamlets have been identified where no vaccination centre was available within a distance of 10 km.
Vaccines have been administered to 75 per cent of the tribal population above 45 years of age and 12 per cent between the age group of 18-44.
91 per cent of the elderly people staying in old age homes have been given the first dose of vaccines, while 14 per cent were administered two doses.
