Senior Congress leader Dr. Karan Singh has said that India cannot act in a discriminatory manner against Kashmiris, if it considers Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India.
He expressed dismay at reports of backlash against the Kashmiris throughout the country. Some people, including dignitaries are even advocating boycott of Kashmiris and Kashmiri goods. Kashmiri students are sent out from their colleges, dormitories and rented accommodations.
Today marks a week after 40 CRPF soldiers were killed in a Pakistani terror attack that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) carried out by suicide bombing.
Dr. Karan Singh said that the current situation might lead to conflagration that could have dangerous consequences.
He referred to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement of “a Naya Pakistan that wants peace”. He said that if Imran is very keen about peace between India and Pakistan, he should first take punitive action against all terrorist organisations that roam around freely in Pakistan and issue one threat or the other to India.
Dr. Karan Singh belongs to the Dogra dynasty, which was the Dogra Rajput family that ruled the kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir. He holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science ad a Ph. D. from Banaras Hindu University. He served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir and ambassador to the United States during the Cold War era.
