Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is facing flak from the Maharashtra government for her remarks comparing Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), has been granted Y-plus category security cover from the Home Ministry.
The ministry has decided to accord Ranaut Y-plus category security in view of a renewed threat to her after she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The Y-plus category central cover entails deployment of about 10 armed commandos with the protectee, PTI reported, quoting an official.

Reacting to the development, Ranaut thanked Home Minister Amit Shah in a tweet, saying he could have advised her to visit Mumbai after a few days considering the present situation, but he “honoured the words of a daughter of the country and her self-respect.”
“This is proof that no fascist will be able to crush a patriotic voice,” she wrote on Twitter.
Ranaut, who is currently in her home state Himachal Pradesh, had earlier tweeted that she will be coming back to Mumbai on September 9 and dared anyone to stop her.
Earlier on Sunday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur had said that his government has decided to provide security to Ranaut in the state and is also considering to extend it during her upcoming visit to Mumbai.

Kangana Ranaut had recently said that she felt unsafe in Mumbai after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, evoking sharp reactions from Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena and party leader Sanjay Raut.
Following her statement, BJP leader Ram Kadam had asked the Sena-led state government to provide the police protection to Ranaut as “she wanted to expose the Bollywood drug nexus”.
However, Ranaut had said she feared the Mumbai police more than the “movie mafia”, and would prefer security either from Himachal Pradesh or the Centre.
