Jitendra Singh hails three agri-reform laws; says they enshrine core Gandhian values of empowering farmers

Union Minister Jitendra Singh hailed the three agri-reform laws recently enacted by the Parliament and said that they enshrine the core Gandhian values of empowering the farmers of the country. He said, Mahatma would have supported these legislations as they liberated the farmers from the shackles of middlemen and Mandis.

Addressing a programme today on ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s Experiments with Swachhata – Key to Prosperity’, organized by Kendriya Bhandar and Centre for Strategy and Leadership, Mr. Singh assured farmers that Minimum Support Price and Agricultural Produce and Livestock Market Committees will continue and will not be removed at any cost.

He asserted the new act aims at creating additional trading opportunities outside the APMC market yards to help farmers get remunerative prices due to additional competition.

The Minister said that this will supplement the existing MSP procurement system which is providing stable income to farmers. He said, an ecosystem will be created where the farmers and traders will enjoy freedom of choice of sale and purchase of agri-produce.

Mr. Singh said, the new farm laws will open more choices for the farmers, reduce marketing costs and help them in getting better prices.
