Jammu & Kashmir: Skilling youth with state-of-art facilities

Having a solid education can truly help future generations succeed in so many areas of life. It not only helps us build character & intellect but also instill our ideas and ways we go throughout our entire life.

Acting on the same lines, the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has been emerging as North India’s ‘Education Hub’. Recently, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir is becoming the education hub because of personal intervention and indulgence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and high prioritisation given by him to Jammu & Kashmir along with Ladakh.

The Union Minister was deliberating at a function to mark the 5-Year Journey of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, he said, the Institute has made an indelible mark in a very short span of time with its state-of-art facilities catering to all sections of society, be it region wise or gender wise.

Catering the students of neighboring states

Along with emerging as a pioneer Education Hub, the Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has also catered to the students from neighbouring States like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, providing them an opportunity in academic openings and prospects.

Further, Institutes like Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS), upgraded Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, National Institute of High Altitude Medicine at Bhaderwah, Industrial Biotech Park at Kathua, and North India’s first Space Centre at Central University Jammu are leaving no stone unturned in catapulting the education standards in the Union Territory.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh also added that Jammu will soon witness huge industrial investment of Rs 25,000 crore, mostly focusing in the domain of health sector thus generating a large number of employment opportunities for youth and also for IIM students.

I urge them (educated youth) to become job providers, rather than job seekers through innovative start-up ventures, the Union Minister asserted.

Started with the humble beginning from a batch of 54 students in 2016, IIM Jammu has more than 250 students and over 30 eminent faculty including six international adjunct professors. The premier Institute will also get a beautiful complex at Jagati by 2022 with all modern facilities at par with best institutes in India.

The Indian Army is also doing their bid in the upliftment of the education sector in the region by sponsoring undergraduate courses and school education to the children and youth in residential schools and colleges functioning under the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), as part of Operation Sadbhavana.

The initiative is aimed at providing quality education to deserving candidates from the Union Territories and offer them opportunities to acquire requisite competence and capability for a secure future.

The scheme further offers a novel opportunity to deserving children and youth from Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh to shape their future into dream careers by studying in country’s best schools and colleges with stellar faculty, innovative pedagogy, immersive experience and state-of-the-art infrastructure
