ISSF World Cup: Gold for Saurabh Chaudhary and silver for Esha Singh

Indian shooting has been a dominant and top sport of the world for most of the time. In the year’s first ISSF World Cup (rifle/pistol), a 19-year old Indian olympian Saurabh Chaudhary clinched the gold medal by beating Michael Schwald of germany 16-6.

On the other hand, 17-year old Esha Singh capped off a great day for India by clinching the silver medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Cairo.

Saurabh Clinches Gold:

The Indian shooting contingent began their campaign on a rather quiet note. But the Indian shooting ace, a 19-year old Indian olympian won the gold medal for the country in the men’s 10m air pistol event, hence opening the country’s account in this year’s ISSF World Cup. Saurabh Chaudhary has a Youth Olympic gold medal to his name, as well as, he is the third in the men’s 10m air pistol qualification stage with a total of 584 points. This indicates that he made it through to the elimination as one of the top eight shooters.

It is pertinent to mention that the medal won by the Indian Olympian is his third individual ISSF World Cup gold and first in the new format, dominating and taking a lead on Germany’s Schwald in the final. He topped the final stage relay 1 with a score of 38, making it through to the medal match, which was contested by the last four shooters. There he again topped with a score of 42.5.

Esha Brings home Silver:

In the women’s 10m air pistol event, Esha went down to reigning world champion and world number one Anna Korakaki of Greece 4-16 in the gold medal match. Esha shot a solid 578 to finish sixth in the 60-shot qualifying round to make it to the second semi-final.

With Saurabh and Esha clinching Gold and Silver medals respectively for the country, India now top the medals tally in the ongoing ISSF event.

Indian Shooting Contingent for ISSF World Cup:

The men’s air rifle squad was led by Tokyo Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar, with Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil and Srinjoy Dutta. Rudrankksh and Dutta were on their first senior India assignments and represented the country at the Junior World Championships last year where Rudrankksh won a silver.
