Instagram allows you to send direct messages (DMs) to have a quick conversation through social media without having to leave the app or website and this has been the case for a while. But this is set to change after the latest update where Facebook Messenger will be the default messaging app when you initiate a conversation on Instagram. The image and video sharing social media network has stated that with the latest update, Facebook Messenger will be integrated into the chat for Instagram.
Message threads, as well as calls, will be accessible through both, Instagram as well as Facebook Messenger applications. The new integration with Facebook Messenger means that Instagram chat will get all the reactions emojis, chat colour options as well as the ability to watch videos in sync with other people. Selfie stickers can also be used as reactions while using Instagram to chat following the Facebook integration rolls out.
Selfie stickers act like Instagram’s Boomerang feature which loops your video seamlessly to create a hilarious short video like a high-quality GIF image. Facebook’s “Watch Together” feature will also be available for Instagram’s IGTV app. WhatsApp’s vanishing messages feature will also come to Instagram chat which deletes messages once they have been read. WhatsApp’s feature allows the sender to set an expiry time limit for messages to stay before vanishing but whether that feature will also come to Instagram chat is yet to be seen when the rollout comes to all users.
The most notable feature about the update is that you don’t need Facebook Messenger app installed on your phone to be able to use the new Instagram chat. Just open Instagram and use the chat while it sorts your messaging needs via the Facebook Messenger integration. Users will also get the option to defer from using the update when asked to upgrade. This will keep your chat the way it is till eventually, it becomes the new norm.
