Bahrain: Punjabi Divas 2019 was celebrated at the Indian School Bahrain (ISB) with joy and fervor. The programme was organized by the Punjabi Language Department of the school in vibrant colours.
Chief Guest Tilak Raj Singh Duaa, (Managing Director, ABIC Group of Companies) inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp in the presence of Guest of Honour Jasbir Singh (Secretary, Gurudwara Gurumat Vidhya Kendra) , ISB Hon. Assistant Secretary Premalatha NS, EC Member -Academics Mohammad Khursheed Alam,Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice Principals,staff and students.
In his speech, Chief Guest Tilak Raj Singh Duaa highlighted the contribution of Punjab and Punjabi Language in different fields of the country. He appreciated the efforts rendered by the students and teachers to make the Punjabi Day celebrations a huge success. Guest of Honour Jasbir Singh wished all the students and the audience the very best of Punjabi Day. He also highlighted the value and contribution of Punjabi Language stating that it’s a rich language. EC Member Mohammad Khursheed Alam wished all the students and appreciated their presentation. He explained the literary contribution of Punjabi Language. Assistant Secretary Premalatha NS also addressed the gathering and highlighted the contribution of Punjab in India’s freedom struggle. Principal V.R Palaniswamy presented mementos to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. HoD Baboo Khan announced the name of prize winners in various competitions. Trophies and certificates were awarded to all winners of different competitions.
Earlier the programme started with National Anthem of Bahrain and India and school prayer followed by recitation from the Holy Qur’an and Guru Granth Sahib. Prayer of Shabad was performed by students followed by the lighting of lamp. A brief Introduction of Punjabi language was given by Punjabi Teacher Rewa Rani.
This was the grand finale of the week-long celebrations wherein many competitions were organised for Punjabi Third Language students. The main competitions were in Hand Writing, Poem Recitation and Picture Composition.
Apart from competitions there were lots of variety programmes such as Punjabi ‘Gidda’ dance, Punjabi Poem, Punjabi Songs and Punjabi ‘Bhangra’. A grand presentation about Punjab was given by the students of classes IX and X.Vote of thanks was proposed by teacher Parminder Kaur.
