India seeks response from Bangladesh to resume air-bubble flights from September 3

The Civil Aviation Ministry has sought some clarification from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) on a few provisions on its categorisation of passengers before resuming flights from September 3.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the CAAB, the Ministry of Civil Aviation referred to its circular dated 16 August which placed India under Category C allowing any passenger from India to travel to Bangladesh irrespective of the COVID 19 vaccination status. However, in its earlier letter dated August 4, the CAAB had laid out a specific category of intended passengers who are allowed to travel between the two countries. India has sought clarification about the categories of passengers who are currently allowed to travel to Bangladesh from India.

Further, the letter has requested CAAB to reconsider its restriction on the number of passengers on a narrow body aircraft to 140. It points out that Indian carriers have multiple configurations of narrow body aircraft in their fleet and thus the capacity restriction may be done as a specific percentage of the installed seat capacity in place of a fixed number of seats.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has sought the response of CAAB on the two points above at an early date to resume the flight operations between the two countries under the air-bubble arrangement with 7 frequencies per week. The letter says that passengers holding tourist visas will not be allowed entry into India under the air-bubble arrangement.
