Union Minister Piyush Goyal says India on track for one trillion-dollar exports

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today said that India is on track to achieve one trillion dollar export targets for the year, with nearly 15 per cent of the annual exports already recorded in the first quarter. Addressing the Board of Trade meeting in New Delhi, Mr Goyal noted that this will require goods exports to rise from about 440 billion dollars to around 530 billion dollars and services exports to increase from roughly 421 billion dollars to about 470 billion dollars. He further said that it expected that merchandise exports growth will show 15 per cent growth and services exports is about 10 to 11 per cent in the first quarter. The Minister noted that India’s export strategy is being built around a stronger, more inclusive approach in which every state, district, and industry segment is treated as equally important. He said that the government is working to ensure that micro, small, medium, and large industries all have the opportunity to benefit from the country’s export push. Mr Goyal highlighted that the Central Government is planning to expand the export base beyond the traditional hubs by making every district in the country an export hub. The Minister emphasized that the government will depute trained nodal officers in districts to guide local businesses, especially MSMEs, on export opportunities, documentation, and market access. He added that these officers will be trained for four to six months in Delhi and will be equipped with data and support systems to handhold exporters. He also highlighted the government is also simplifying procedures, reducing compliance burdens, and improving the ease of doing business to support the export ecosystem. Mr Goyal emphasized the role of the export promotion mission in helping businesses with branding overseas, warehouses, and exhibitions abroad, and urged exporters to make full use of newly operational and upcoming Free Trade Agreements (FTA), including those with Oman, Switzerland, the UAE, and the UK. He further said India is increasingly seen as a secure and attractive partner for global trade, but achieving the next level of growth will require scale, quality, outreach, and collective effort from industry and government alike. Meanwhile, speaking to the media on the sidelines of the meeting, Mr Goyal said that Free Trade Agreements with 38 developed countries have opened new opportunities for Indian exports and strengthened the country’s access to global markets. He added that there is growing interest across the world in deepening trade and economic partnerships with India. Referring to recent engagements with countries including Japan, Greece and the United Kingdom, he said India is actively engaging with global leaders and industries to further strengthen trade ties. He expressed confidence that these efforts will help accelerate India’s exports in the coming month.
