Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari has said that India’s logistics cost will come down from 16 percent of the nation’s GDP to single digit by the end of the year. Addressing the ASSOCHAM Annual Conference in New Delhi today, Mr Gadkari said that India’s logistics costs are currently higher than some of its major competitors like US and China, which has inhibited export. The Minister highlighted that increasing exports is the most important agenda for the country which can only be achieved by reducing logistics cost, improving transportation facilities and boosting indigenous production.Talking about India’s push towards alternative energy sources, he added that diversification of agriculture towards power and energy sector is leading towards reduced dependency on fossil fuel, reducing imports. Mr Gadkari also hailed Hydrogen as the fuel of the future for the country and said that India can become an energy exporter to the world while fulfilling environmental responsibilities. He further added that India will use all its legacy solid waste by 2027 for road construction.
