Heavy rains continue in Kerala due to effect of super cyclone Biporjo

In Kerala, Heavy rains with thunder and wind to continue due to the effect of super cyclone Biporjo in the Arabian Sea and low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. Met dept forecasts heavy rains are in Southern and Central Kerala. Yellow alert has been declared today and tomorrow in 6 districts. Fishing is banned in Kerala-Karnataka- Lakshadweep coasts due to strong winds and bad weather.

Meanwhile, trawling ban came into effect in the State from last midnight, for 52 days till 31st July. During this period, mechanised boats are prohibited from entering the sea. However, small inboard and traditional boats are allowed, restricted to 12 nautical miles from the coast. 24-hour control rooms are set up in all coastal districts. Trawlling ban is imposed every year , on account of the fish breeding season during monsoons.
