Government to hold national-level tourism summit in J&K


In quest to promote tourism, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is set to host a national-level tourism summit, after a gap of several years. The UT government aims to particularly promote tourism of the newly identified off-beat destinations.

In line with it, the Government of union Territory has decided to conduct national-level tourism summit in Jammu as well as Srinagar in the next few months. Moreover, for the first time, hotels are being ranked as per the available facilities under the Tourism Trade Act. Tourism Summit’s major focus will be on promotion of off-beat tourism destinations in both the regions particularly in Jammu where several destinations for adventure tourism have been identified by the Directorate of Tourism Jammu on the directions of the Government.

According to official sources, as reported by Hindustan Samachar, though the Tourism Department is regularly participating in tourism festivals in different parts of the country in order to promote tourism destinations of UT, yet no national-level event has been conducted in Jammu & Kashmir during the past several years.

The National-level seminar will be beneficial to the tourism circuit in the country, and promote travel to different parts of the country in addition to Jammu & Kashmir. The dates for the tourism summit are yet to be finalised however, it is likely to be held either by the end of this year or at the beginning of the new year.

Places to travel in J&K

The UT is famous for a number of places. One can experience different aspects of the place – from religious to environmental. Some of these include Shri Raghunathji Temple (Jammu), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine (Jammu), Gulmarg (Kashmir), Dal Lake (Srinagar), Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Srinagar, Betaab valley and more.

Promoting India tourism

The Government of India is in constant endeavour to promote tourism in the country. Aligning with this, it has introduced a number of campaigns and schemes such as the Dekho Apna Desh, Swadesh Darshan Scheme, etc. Furthermore, PM Modi too has on various occasions, has urged NRI’s to bring foreign friends to India for tourism. In addition to this, India is a growing hub for health tourism, spiritual tourism, culture tourism and more.
