The Goa government has issued an order requisitioning the premises of the state’s 21 private hospitals to provide treatment to the COVID-19 patients.
Interacting with the media, Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed, ” Private hospitals were not complying with the reservation of 50 percent of their total capacity of beds for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Hence, for the treatment of COVID patients, these 21 private hospitals will be used by the government from today. Additionally, the government will pay for treatment at these hospitals.”
These hospitals will be managed and operated by the existing hospital staff. A government officer will also be stationed at each of these private hospitals to ensure that 50 percent of the beds are reserved for COVID patients. The treatment will be provided under Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY), the medical insurance scheme of the state government, the Chief Minister added.
“In the interest of the people of Goa, the state government will take control over private hospitals for the admission of COVID patients. Govt will appoint officials at each private hospital for this purpose and facilitate 100% free treatment for DDSSY beneficiaries,” read one of the tweets of Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
For the requisition of the premises of private hospitals, a competent authority has been created for the swift treatment to COVID-19 patients, along with the staff, vehicles, and services of these hospitals. The order will be applicable to one month under section 65 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
