Ganga water quality improves after implementation of Namami Gange Programme: Govt

After implementation of the Namami Gange Programme, the water quality has improved in the National River Ganga.

Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Prahlad Singh Patel informed that in comparison to 2014, improvement found in dissolved oxygen in 40 locations, Bio-chemical oxygen demand at 41 locations and faecal coliform at 21 locations on river Ganga.

Central and State Pollution Control Boards are continuously monitoring the water quality.

With objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of river Ganga and its tributaries, in 2014, the Centre launched Namami Gange Programme.

Over a 24 thousand crore rupees worth 158 sewerage infrastructure projects have been completed out of sanctioned 346, to control pollution in the river.
