DRONAI: IFFCO Integrating drone, Nano and AI technologies for Smart Agriculture

IFFCO’s latest technological intervention is set to change the agricultural landscape of India as it has announced fresh plans to promote usage of nano fertilizers through AI and other new-age technologies across the country. The effort will lead farmers towards smart farming which will result in increased farm output, systematic and advanced farming methods and better income generation.

The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) is looking to spread awareness to enhance efforts towards the use of nano fertilizers like nano urea and nano DAP throughout the country using the new-age technologies like drones, AI and others. IFFCO is planning to implement this with by collaborating with various Indian Agricultural Universities and technical institutes.

An integrated program called DRONAI will assist in promoting the foliar application of Nano fertilizers and other agrochemicals. Drone technology, Nano technology, AI and mobile technologies will be combined to achieve the goal.

These advanced technologies will be made available for farmers via a mobile app that would make spraying more effective, cheaper and much safer. The AI based software will have the ability to detect growth and health of the crops while spraying. Then, based on the data detected, it will be able to guide farmers about smart agricultural practices. Additionally, by simply clicking in the app, the farmers would be able to easily schedule spraying far in advance.

It is pertinent to note that the DRONAI program aims to guide and monitor farmers about usage and incorporation of drone technology effectively in agriculture and it also promotes spraying of nano fertilizer and agrochemicals in larger areas at in a cost-effective fashion for farmers. the trial module of DRONAI was introduced by IFFCO in technical collaboration with TNAU on 2nd May at the Agricultural Research Station of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, India.

By using DRONAI technology, farmers will save time, avoid drudgery and health problems related to manual spraying of agricultural chemicals, and have their spraying costs reduced by 50%. The major aim of this program is to develop a very effective drone spraying system, operate it in a coordinated fashion with rural farmers and even train rural youth and farmers in understanding and efficiently using advanced technologies that can ultimately result in promoting rural entrepreneurship.

All essential protocols regarding drones, their transport vehicle and safe flying are pre-installed into this entire process and are coordinated through farmer friendly mobile App. This new-age integrated drone technology can not only result in reduced manual efforts but is also effective in terms of saving time, energy and promoting ease and safety.
