The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged the Bombay High Court to reject Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s plea seeking a compensation of Rs 2 crore from the civic body for “illegal” demolition at her bungalow.

The BMC on Friday filed an affidavit in the high court in response to the Bollywood actress’ petition and said the compensation amount of Rs 2 crore sought by her for the damages is an “abuse of law”.

The civic body also said that the court shall impose a cost on her for filing such plea that doesn’t stand legal grounds.

“The plaintiff approached the court with unclean hands and has suppressed true facts and is not liable for any relief. The writ petition and the relief sought for therein constitute an abuse of power. The petition not be entertained and should be dismissed with costs,” the BMC said in its affidavit.

Ranaut’s plea in HC over BMC demolition drive

On September 9, Ranaut had moved the high court after the BMC demolished “illegal” alterations at her bungalow at Pali Hill in suburban Bandra.

A division bench led by Justice S J Kathawalla had stayed the demolition drive and posted the mater for further hearing on September 22.

Ranaut, who has been locked in a bitter tussle with Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena, later amended her petition before the court to seek compensation, alleging that the demolition drive was a direct consequence of her remarks against the state government.

In her amended plea, she urged the court to declare the BMC’’s action as illegal and direct the civic body and its “concerned officials” to pay her Rs 2 crore in damages.

Ranaut at loggerheads with Shiv Sena

Kangana Ranaut came under sharp criticism and evoked sharp reactions from the Shiv Sena and its party leaders, especially Sanjay Raut after she said that she felt unsafe in Mumbai after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and that she feared Mumbai police more than “move mafias”.

She had also drawn flak from the Shiv Sena for her comments comparing Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The 33-year-old actress was recently given Y+ security cover after she said that she would help expose Bollywood drugs nexus.
