Delhi breathes in ‘satisfactory’ air as overall AQI stands at 63

The overall air quality in the national capital stood in the ‘satisfactory’ category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) docking at 63 at 6 am on Monday, said the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). The levels of prominent pollutants such as PM10 and PM2.5 touched 63 (‘satisfactory’ category) and 28 (‘good’ category) respectively.

Air quality in various areas of Delhi

According to the data shared by the Central Pollution Control Board, several areas in Delhi such as Aya Nagar, Sri Aurobindo Marg, Mathura Road, Dwarka Sector 8, Dilshad Garden (IHBAS), Lodhi Road and Patparganj recorded the air quality in the ‘good’ category with the overall AQI values standing at 26, 20, 30, 44, 35, 30 and 25 respectively. Meanwhile, the AQI in other areas such as Anand Vihar,  Bawana, Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3), ITO, Punjabi Bagh, Wazirpur stood at 87, 64, 77, 76, 53 and 69 respectively, all falling in the ‘satisfactory’ category.

SAFAR’s forecast

The pollution monitoring system has said that Delhi’s overall AQI is expected to improve towards the lower end of the ‘satisfactory’ category on Tuesday (September 1). The concentration of PM2.5 particles is expected to be at 25 (‘good’ category) while PM10 is expected to be at 56 (‘satisfactory’ category). However, after three days, PM2.5 is expected to be around 39 (‘satisfactory’ category).

Air quality in other major cities

Adjoining Noida in Uttar Pradesh also recorded ‘satisfactory’ air quality with the concentrations of PM10, PM2.5 and ozone (O3) standing at 84, 61 and 56 respectively. Meanwhile, the quality of air in other major cities such as Pune, Ahmedabad and Mumbai stood in the ‘good’ category with the overall AQI standing at 32, 33 and 34 respectively.
