Customs Joint Commissioner Aneesh P Rajan has been transferred from Kochi to Nagpur over allegations that he was supporting chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Kochi: Customs Joint Commissioner Aneesh P Rajan has been transferred from Kochi to Nagpur over allegations that he was supporting chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The statement made by Aneesh P Rajan triggered a row when he stated that no phone calls were received from the office of the chief minister during the investigation into the gold smuggling case.

Earlier, BJP state president K Surendran had alleged that the office of the chief minister contacted the Customs to protect gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh. Following this, when the media inquired Aneesh if the CM’s office contacted the officials in this regard, he replied nothing such had happened. Later K Surendran criticized Aneesh Rajan through Facebook mentioning his name directly that he was trying to protect the CM’s office. Some Congress leaders also raised similar allegations. BJP state leadership had filed a complaint to the Centre against Aneesh. The central government also sought a report from the Customs.

Aneesh is the recipient of the World Customs Organisation’s Certificate of Merit. Hailing from Panampilly Nagar in Kochi, he belongs to 2008 batch IRS cadre. He is brother of P R Raneesh, former CPM councillor of Kochi corporation and Ernakulam area committee member.

Aneesh P Rajan was waiting for deputation to the Rubber Board when he was transferred. The paper works for the deputation was almost completed. According to the service rules, an officer cannot continue in one zone of the Customs for long.

Aneesh was first appointed in Kerala and he completed 12 years here. Meanwhile, he worked in the anti-evasion department (GST Intelligence now) in Ernakulam for three years on deputation. Following this, his appointment outside Kerala was delayed.
