Centre releases over Rs 830 cr to Odisha to expedite implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission

Centre has released over 830 crore rupees to Odisha to expedite the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in the state. Jal Shakti Ministry said, Odisha has planned to become Har Ghar Jal State in 2024. Out of around 85 lakh rural households in the state, around 41 per cent households have tap water supply in their homes.

The Ministry said, efforts are made to ensure tap water availability for drinking, cooking mid-day meal, handwashing and usage in toilets in all schools and anganwadi centres. As on date, more than 36 thousand schools and over 29 thousand Anganwadi Centres in Odisha have been provided with tap water supply.

Jal Jeevan Mission was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th August 2019, with the aim to provide assured tap water supply to every rural home by 2024.
