No decision yet on cancellation,ICAI seeks more time from SC to check feasibility at exam centre

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI has asked for some more time from Supreme Court to make a decision on CA Exam 2020. The Institute has said the Court that they need time to contact all the exam centers to access the feasibility of holding exams at all amid rising virus cases. SC has granted time to the Institute to sort out all the details on the conduct of the upcoming examination.

The Supreme Court’s bench of justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjiv Khanna adjourned the hearing in the case till next week after the Institute asked for more time for figure out the feasibility of conducting the CA exam.

Senior Counsel Ramji Srinivasan while representing the ICAI told the SC that the cases have increased in the country from last hearing till today. As many states have recorded a spike in the positive cases ICAI would require time to assess if the body could conduct the examination on time or not.

As for now, the Supreme Court will hear the matter next week. The bench however has said to ICAI that the change of center should not be freezed but should be open for all till the end. Till the last week…You need to be flexible, you cannot be rigid.

Meanwhile, ICAI has extended the ICAI CA November exams registration date for foundation course till August 31, 2020.The institute has informed that those candidates who appeared in one or more papers in the months of February and March in senior secondary exams can also provisionally register for the course.
