Brazil’s President Calls for Coordinated BRICS Response to Rising U.S. Tariffs Under Trump

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has vowed to rally BRICS nations, including India, against U.S. President Donald Trump’s rising tariffs on imports. In an interview with a news agency, Lula criticized Trump’s push for unilateral deals over multilateral cooperation, warning that smaller economies have little leverage alone.

As Brazil currently holds the BRICS presidency, Lula said he plans to call Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, followed by China’s Xi Jinping and other BRICS leaders, to coordinate a response. He emphasized the bloc’s presence in the G20 and called for collective action to counter Trump’s tariff policies, which he believes undermine global institutions.
